About Us

Atmospheric Flight Mechanics (AFM) Technical Committee (TC) Scope: Aerodynamic performance, trajectories, and attitude dynamics of vehicles moving through planetary atmospheres, including aircraft, spacecraft, boosters, and entry vehicles; aerodynamic forces and moments acting on such vehicles; stability, response to control, flying qualities, and response to atmospheric disturbances of these vehicles.

AFM TC holds sessions each year at the AIAA SciTech conference and meets in-person twice a year: at SciTech and on-site at one of the committee member’s worksite. AFM works in close collaboration with other AIAA Technical Committees, such as the Guidance, Navigation, and Controls group and the Modeling & Simulation group. We are also actively working on activities with other, similar organizations outside the United States

AFM TC currently has 44 active members, representing academia, industry, and the government. The committee has members from across the United States, Europe, and Asia. The current leadership of the technical committee is as follows.
